Galway Bay fm newsroom – Renowned Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy is returning to the Galway stage
He will star alongside internationally-acclaimed film and theatre actor Stephen Rea and theatre stalwart Mikel Murfi in an Enda Walsh play
Ballyturk will be the opening production of this year’s Galway Arts Festival on July 14th and reunites the creative team behind Enda Walsh’s Misterman
The play is Enda’s first new play in four years and his first since he won a Tony Award for Once, the Broadway musical, currently running in New York, London’s West End and is on a major US tour.
Ballyturk, a black comedy, runs at the Black Box Theatre, Galway from 10-27 July.
Works underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Efforts are continuing to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort.
Due to the depletion of water in the reservoir, there will be an outage until approximately 8 tonight to allow levels to recover.
Galway County Council working in partnership with Irish Water say there may be further outages overnight, but every effort will be made to restore supply to all areas as soon as possible.
Step forward in redevelopment of Ceannt Station as a major transport hub
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s been a step forward in the redevelopment of Ceannt Station as a major transport hub, with the opening of the tender process.
The Department of Transport and URDF funded plan aims to transform the station area as integrated public transport hub.
Speaking as the tender process was announced Transport Minister Eamon Ryan said the ease of transfer between rail and bus at the upgraded train station will support the compact and sustainable growth of the city.
Subject to the tender process and funding approvals, Iarnród Éireann envisages awarding the main construction contract by mid-2023, with a construction phase of 30 months.
The work will include a new entrance and facade, new customer facilities, enhanced connectivity and interchange between rail and bus services and a new roof on the existing train hall to transform the platform and circulation areas into bright spaces.
Junior Transport Minister and Galway West TD Hildegarde Naughton said this investment, along with progress in delivering BusConnects Galway, will provide more options on how people can travel to,from and around the city and county.

The hands-on business learning experience was launched in in Coláiste Cholmcille in the Connemara Gaeltacht today by Minister for State for the Gaeltacht and Government Chief Whip, Jack Chambers
Clár na gComhlachtaí encourages budding entrepreneurs in Transition Year in the Gaeltacht areas of Cork, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Meath, Kerry and Waterford to develop their own mini-enterprises and compete in a national final.
