It was a weekend when the weather took a severe toll on fixtures, for while there were a few limited games played on Saturday, there was no action on Sunday following a decision by the Galway FA to cancel all the programme due to the yellow weather warning.
In the Premier League, if survival is a point at a time, so be it, as Renmore seems to have perfected a system for salvation bit-by-bit. Four draws in their last four games and two wins previous to that has seen them move just above the relegation zone. They also have games in hand on those around them and appear to have the ability to stay clear of the drop zone.
While Loughrea prop up the table and look to be in deep trouble, with just one win all season, just above them are a Hibernians team that has now gone eight games without a league win. However, they still have company in the lower half of the table and it’s nothing that a few wins can’t rescue.
In the only other top-flight game played at the weekend, they went down to defeat against Moyne Villa, as the Headford side moved to second position in the table.

Conditions were not ideal in Maree on Saturday afternoon, but this clash provided a fair contest between two sides who like to play ball and who are both trying to pick up points and remain clear of the relegation zone.
It was an occasion when two of the division’s lower-scoring teams cancelled one another out and while chances were created, the excellence of the respective goalkeepers James Murphy and Cian Costello ensured a stalemate.
There was a little more about Renmore from an attacking point of view, as they turned defence into attack in a quicker more positive manner. Maree-Oranmore appeared to go a little more lateral and their build-up was somewhat more patient.
However, the game had no shortage of playmakers as Iffy Ossogba, Liam McDonagh, and Colm Whelan displayed all the talents required to be creative for the home side; while Paddy McKiernan, Niall Martin, and Kennedy Tabot-Ndip offered similar abilities for the visitors.
A smart save by Cian Costello kept out an early Colm Whelan effort and he repeated the feat with another stop to deny Gavin Smyth. Cian Specht led the line well for Renmore and he clipped the top of the crossbar with a long-range effort with Murphy beaten, but the goalkeeper did well later on to push away a Daniel Kinneen free-kick.
The custodian also kept out a Niall Martin shot, before the visitors Padraig Corcoran headed a Conor Fahy corner wide. The home side offered a late threat as Costello kept out a Whelan free-kick, before Darragh Cleary pulled a late chance wide of the target.
Maree-Oranmore: Murphy, J Morrisey, S Cox (Horgan 64), Murray, Lillis, Ossogba (Kraja 86), M Black (Lavelle 77), Liam McDonagh, C Black (Cleary 64), Smyth (Faiyoud 77), Whelan.
Renmore: Costello, Rees, Pippin, Fitzgerald (inj, Corcoran 72), Tabot-Ndip, Martin, Kinneen (Ayare 87), McKiernan, Specht, Fahy, Murray (Omokua 63).
Referee: Joe Hession.
Moyne Villa defeated Hibernians 3-1 in Headford with Darragh Forde (2) and Kyle Greaney getting the goals. The home side were generally in command as a Forde finish gave them an interval advantage; before a Nathan Ward goal levelled matters for the city side.
However, Forde quickly restored the home side’s advantage, before Greaney sealed the win with a late third. While the win moved them to within a point of table toppers Salthill Devon, they have played four games more. Hibernians are in action again tonight (Friday) when they meet Salthill Devon in Drom (8pm).
