Public meeting about future of another county post office

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A public meeting will take place in Cappataggle tonight (3/6) over the future of the post office.
The postmistress passed away recently, throwing doubt over the future of the post service licence.
The post office in Cappataggle has been run by the Dooley family since the early 1940s.
An Post says it will carry out a review of the service but will wait until after the months mind mass for the postmistress.
A public meeting will take place at Cappataggle Community Centre at 8 o’ clock this evening to discuss the future of the post office.
A group of people from the Barnaderg Post Office Action Group, who are still awaiting a decision on the future of that post office, are also due to attend.

Support meeting return for bereaved parents following summer break

From the Galway Bay FM newsroom- Anam Cara, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, will resume meetings in Galway in September following a short break over the summer months.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 7th of September at 7.15pm in the Clayton Hotel Briarhill.

All bereaved parents from the Galway area are welcome, regardless of the age their child died or circumstance of death.

Registration is not required, and attendees can just turn up on the day.

Xerotech expanding at “rapid rate” after 50 new jobs announced for Claregalway facility

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Battery tech firm Xerotech, based in Claregalway, says it’s now scaling at a “rapid rate” after announcing 50 new jobs.

With a substantial manufacturing footprint at Claregalway Corporate Park, the company is a leading supplier of advanced battery systems.

It hopes to add additional buildings and extensions by the end of next year to significantly boost capacity.

It says the 50 new roles are needed by the end of the year in a wide range of fields – details are available on the Xerotech website.

Local TD says Minister’s suggestion farmers add horses to herds “embarrassing and gobsmacking”

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Local TD Michael Fitzmaurice says a Minister’s suggestion that farmers should add horses to their herds is “embarrassing” and “gobsmacking”

Junior Agriculture Minister Pippa Hacket says cattle and sheep farmers should consider rearing horses in order to reduce carbon emissions.

The Green party TD told the Irish Independent that she’d like to examine if livestock farmers could be incentivised to take up horse breeding.

But Roscommon/Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice claims the suggestion shows a misunderstanding of the sector:
