HUNDREDS of thousands of Irish Water customers across the north-west region – including most of Galway – have been invited to take part in a public consultation process outlining water supply plans and issues that will potentially arise over the next 25-years.
Four public webinars – interactive consultations over the internet – have been organised by Irish Water starting on Monday next, January 16 and continuing on until Thursday, February 2.
According to Irish Water, the public consultation and information sessions will feed into their plans to provide a ‘safe, secure, reliable and sustainable water supply’ for current and future customers.
Irish Water’s overall national plan was unveiled in the summer of 2021, and now in phase 2 of that project, four Regional Water Resource Plans are being rolled out.
Across the north-west region, comprising all, or parts of, Galway, Clare, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim, Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Meath and Donegal, there are 142 water treatment plants supplying 732,700 people.
Also included in the plan are eight coastal islands with the total area covered amounting to almost 27,000 square kilometres.
