Plan for improvement works at Inis Oirr pier
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Tenders are being sought for improvement works at Inis Oirr pier, on the Aran Islands.
Works will focus on a pier extension and a new breakwater.
It will also include marine ground investigation.
This sets out to establish the presence and nature of overburden soil, to establish the characteristics of the rock mass and to assess rock excavatability.
Galway County council is now assessing the interested bids.
Meanwhile a grant of over nine thousand euro has been sanctioned by Gaeltacht Minister Joe McHugh for a topographic survey and utility survey in relation to the development of Inis Oirr quay.

Calls for signal junction at Merlin Park Hospital to be made priority

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local councillor is calling for the new proposed signalized junction at Merlin Park Hospital to be made a priority.
It is estimated to be completed by 2028, and councillor Alan Cheevers claims that’s just too long to wait.
Public consultation is underway for the Dublin Road Bus Connects and cycle lanes, which includes the new junction at the entrance to the hospital
Councillor Cheevers says the junction is badly needed now and cannot wait another five years.

Two men charged following the discovery of a cannabis grow house in Aughrim

Two men in their 30s have been charged following the discovery of a cannabis grow house in County Galway.
Members of the Galway Divisional Drug Unit carried out a planned search of a home in Aughrim yesterday evening.
They discovered a grow house containing cannabis plants with an estimated street value of 146 thousand euro, and 20 thousand euro worth of cannabis herb.
Both men are due to appear before a special sitting of Galway District Court this evening.
