Plan for enhancement works at Palace Grounds in Tuam

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is to seek 200 thousand euro in funding for enhancement works at the Palace Grounds in Tuam.

The application will be made through the Outdoor Recreation and Amenity Fund and will also include a proposal to make the Tuam park a Green Flag area with European wide recognition.

The proposed works would see amenities for artists and musicians as well as a revamp of pathways to facilitate the elderly or those with a disability.

Tuam area Councillor Donagh Killilea is calling for a commemoration wall to be installed in the park as part of the project, which will honour local people who have given their time freely to help improve the town.

He says the amenity will act as an inspiration for local artists and musicians…

Investigation underway following plane crash near Athenry

Galway Bay fm newsroom – An investigation is being carried out following a plane crash near Athenry yesterday.

A man and a woman – both aged in their 60s – were taken to University Hospital Galway following the light aircraft crash in a field near Killimordaly GAA club around 1.30pm.

It’s understood the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing in the Cessna 172 following engine trouble when the crash happened.

One person was airlifted via Air Corps helicopter 112 to UHG while another was taken via ambulance.

Personel from the Air Accident Investigation Unit attended the scene and will carry out an investigation into the incident.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Albert Dolan says investigators need time to establish what exactly happened…

Two people taken to UHG following plane crash near Athenry

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Two people have been taken to University Hospital Galway following a light aircraft crash near Athenry.

It’s understood a small plane made an emergency landing at a GAA pitch near Killimordaly shortly after lunchtime.

One person was airlifted via Air Corps helicopter 112 to UHG while another was taken via ambulance.

Emergency services – including units of Galway Fire Brigade – remain at the scene this afternoon.

Man dies following house fire in Moylough

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A man has died following a house fire in Moylough.

It’s understood the fire broke out at around 5am at a two storey house in the Moate area.

It’s believed the man, who is aged in his 60’s, was living alone at the house.

Emergency services – including several units from Mountbellew and Tuam – remain at the scene this morning.
