Person taken to UHG following Kilcolgan crash

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A person has been taken to University Hospital Galway following a road traffic crash in Kilcolgan.
The accident happened in the past hour at the N18 – N67 junction in the village.
The road remains open but Gardai are advising motorists to expect delays over the next hour.
It’s understood the person taken to UHG did not suffer serious injuries.

Community vows to protest over relocation of Loughrea Day Centre

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The community in Loughrea are vowing to protest over the relocation of the Day Centre, according to a local councillor.

A protest was held in June over its closure, and the service has since reopened for one day in the existing centre at St Brendans, with three days available at the Loughrea Hotel.

In 2019 a HIQA report found that the St Brendan’s centre was ‘substantially compliant’, but there were issues raised with the dining facility and the centre was closed to facilitate permanent residents.

However, Councillor Geraldine Donohue has said that an architect was to come in to deal with the issue, but she has not yet seen that happen.

Councillor Donohue says locals have lots of questions.

Four Galway graduates chosen for ESB’s award-winning programme

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Four Galway graduates have been chosen for ESB’s award-winning Development Programme.

Frank Flannery based on College Road, Clifden’s Oisin O’Malley and city-based Abhisek Krishnan and Jason Kenneth Dsouza are among the 45 participants nationwide.

The programme forms part of ESB’s drive to recruit talent to support the delivery of its Net Zero by 2040 strategy.

This year’s graduates will be placed across five business units – ESB Networks, Generation and Trading, Engineering and Major Projects, Customer Solutions and Enterprise Services.

Cancer Care West considers extension to meet increase in demand

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Cancer Care West is considering further expansion in Galway to meet the increasing demand on its services.

The charity, which has services in University Hospital Galway, provides support to anyone whose life has been affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer Care West’s 33-bedroom residential facility, Inis Aoibhinn, ran to capacity last year, with nearly 7,000 bed nights provided to patients undergoing radiotherapy.
