Over three thousand Galway junior cert students set to receive exam results

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over three thousand Galway junior cert students are set to receive their results this morning.
3,439 students from the city and county will be able to collect results from their school or online after completing their first state exams in June.

At top of the class nationwide this year are 47 pupils who achieved 11 A grades for all subjects including the highest grade of “Distinction” in English

The numbers sitting this year’s exams increased slightly – up 1.5 percent on 2017. Grades are being awarded today across a total of 25 subjects
Results will be available at schools around the country and online from 4 o’clock.

Inland Fisheries Ireland recruiting new Seasonal Fisheries Officers in Galway

Galway Bay FM newsroom – Inland Fisheries Ireland is recruiting 36 Seaonal Fisheries Officers in Galway and nationwide.

The six-month posts are divided across seven River Basin Districts, covering fifteen counties including Galway.

Seasonal Fisheries Officers from Galway will join teams over the summer months – to help protect, conserve and develop fisheries resources in Ireland’s lakes, rivers and coastlines.

Those interested in applying must apply before the deadline of Tuesday 21st of February on the Inland Fisheries Ireland website.

Portiuncula Univeristy Hospital hosting Service of Remembrance for those who have lost a child

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Portiuncula University Hospital is hosting a Service of Remembrance on the 13th of February for those who have experienced the loss of a child.

Parents and their families who have experienced a bereavement through the death of a child or who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still birth or after birth are invited to attend.

The service will get underway at 7.30pm in the hospital chapel with light refreshments afterwards.

Deirdre Naughton, Director of Midwifery at the hospital says the service will offer parents a chance to reflect on their journey:

UD Motorway and lane closures between Ballinasloe and Oranmore over next 8 days

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Commuters are being advised of upcoming motorway and lane closures on designated days between Ballinasloe and Oranmore between tomorrow and Thursday week, February 16th

The M6 Eastbound will be closed between Junction 19 and 18 from 10pm tomorrow (thurs feb 9) until 6am on Friday, with diversions in place.

On Monday 13th traffic will be down to one lane on the M6 WESTbound between junction 16 Loughrea and 17 Athenry.

The following day, one lane on that stretch EASTbound will be closed.

On Wednesday 15th, it will be down to one lane between Junction 16 Loughrea and 15 Ballinasloe.

Then on Thursday 16th, one lane will be closed between Junction 14 East Ballinasloe and Junction 15 West Ballinasloe.

All those closures will be in place from 8AM until 5PM each day.
