Claddagh Choral will present On The Road, a Celebration of Irish and American Choral Music, at Galway Cathedral on May 26 at 8pm. The event is in association with Lehigh University Choral Arts Programme and will also include the Voices of Galway Choir and the Galway City Youth Academy.
The Lehigh Choral Arts programme, which has been led by director Steven Sametz for more than 20 years, is regarded as one of the USA’s top choirs.
It has four ensembles: the Lehigh University Choir, Lehigh University Glee Club, Dolce (a treble choir), and The Choral Union (which includes students, faculty, staff and townspeople).
The Galway concert is part of the organisation’s On The Road tour of Ireland.
Voices of Galway is a new choral ensemble led by Stephen Carroll, which had its debut at Claddagh Choral’s concert in Salthill Church in March.
Its repertoire includes fun, upbeat music, with an emphasis on community, inclusivity and diversity.
Galway City Youth Academy is comprised of three choirs – Galway City Children’s Choir Junior, Galway City Children’s Choir Senior, and Galway City Youth Choir. All three will perform at the event on May 26, which will feature a repertoire of Irish and American choral music.
The concert starts at 8pm and tickets are €15/10. Go to www.eventbrite.com and key in ‘on the road’.
