The Health Service Executive (HSE) has taken over the running of a private nursing in County Galway due to health and safety concerns of its residents.
Aperee Living Ballinasloe on Bridge Street in Ballinasloe had its registration cancelled at Castlerea District Court last Friday, after state agency HIQA intervened.
The court order was secured by Health Information and Quality Authority the day after it published another damning report into the nursing home, identifying risks to residents.
HIQA cited “repeated non-compliance” with regulations in its latest inspection report, including a failure to fully protect residents from a risk of fire, first identified over two years ago.
A spokesperson for Aperee Living Ballinasloe declined to comment and referred all queries to the HSE.
HIQA also said it could not elaborate on the case, but it confirmed that last Friday pursuant to Section 59 of the Health Act 2007, an order was made by Castlerea District Court cancelling the registration of Aperee Living Ballinasloe as a designated centre under Part 8 of the Health Act 2007.
“In the interests of the health, safety and quality of life of the residents, and in accordance with Section 64 of the Health Act 2007, the HSE was directed to take charge of the nursing home,” HIQA said.
The HSE took charge from Saturday June 29 at 10am.
