Coláiste Iognáid Rowing Club is celebrating outstanding national success after two of its athletes set new Irish rowing records last month.
Transition Year student Grace Faherty produced a remarkable performance in December, breaking the U-16 Irish record in the 6,000m ergometer record with a time of 22:43, lowering the previous mark by over 50 seconds.
She went on to set two further Irish U-16 records in the 500m and 100m distances within the same month, confirming her status as one of Ireland’s most promising young rowers.
Also achieving national recognition was Jes 3rd Year student Eoghan Volz O’Dowd, who set a new Irish U-14 record in the 10,000m erg with an impressive time of 37:59.9 – the ‘erg’ machine is used for indoor rowing and simulates the rowing action on land regardless of weather conditions.
Earlier in 2025, he also claimed the Irish record in the 1,000m for his age group.
