The Fine Gael Oranmore area councillor was elected at last evening’s (fri jun 14) council meeting under a technical agreement between Fine Gael, Labour and the Independents succeeding Independent councillor Tom Welby
Speaking just after his election Mayor Carroll said he will be asking the IDA, Enterprise Ireland and Udaras na Gaeltachta to make presentations to the council
143 cases of COVID-19 in Galway hospitals
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are 143 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Galway hospitals today as pressure continues on the health service nationwide.
131 Coronavirus patients are being treated at UHG, while 12 patients are attending Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe.
The intensive care unit at UHG is treating 10 COVID-19 patients – with two patients being treated for the virus in the ICU at Portiuncula Hospital.
It comes as over 2,000 people with COVID-19 are being treated in Irish hospitals for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
HSE CEO Paul Reid says healthcare workers are trying hard to remain in control.

Galway records 11% drop in new company registrations
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway recorded an 11 percent drop in new company registrations last year.
806 were recorded in the city and county in the 12 month period compared to 897 in 2019.
25 insolvencies were recorded in Galway in the period.
There’s been a national drop of 4 percent in the number of start-up firms in 2020.
CRIF Vision-net says 21,924 new companies were registered last year, the lowest figure since 2016.
Of the 26 counties in the Republic, 24 saw a drop in new firm start-ups.
Status yellow rainfall warning
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Galway and 10 other counties from tonight.
Met Eireann says heavy rain is being forecast for Connacht as well as Cavan, Longford, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Westmeath.
The warning comes into place at 9pm, until 9pm tomorrow.
