New city store to generate 35 jobs
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new store in the city is to generate 35 jobs.
Cara, which is located at the former HMV premises on Barrack Lane, will officially open tomorrow.
The Galway store will be the 15th Cara outlet nationwide, and will bring the company’s employment to 150 staff.
The chain recently re-branded from Cara Pharmacies after expanding their retail to include home, lifestyle and baby goods.
Joint Managing Director Ramona Nicholas told Galway Bay fm news that they’ve had their sights set on the city for a while.

Galway vaccination centre temporarily moving to Merlin Park

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway Vaccination Centre is temporarily relocating from Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit – to Unit 3, Podiatry, Merlin Park, Galway.
It’ll be moved from this Sunday 10th July until Monday 1st August.
Podiatry services in Merlin Park will not be affected during this period.
The centre will not be taking any walk-in appointments due to limited space.

Galway Port increases capacity with the arrival of Ireland’s largest wind turbines

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway Port is increasing its capacity to make way for the arrival of Ireland’s largest wind turbines.
Arderroo Wind Farm in Connemara is expecting 22 more turbines in total, with one shipment having arrived just this morning. (06/07)
It’s the sixteenth wind turbine project the port has worked on, which is increasing its profile as an energy hub.

Local TD demands support for farmers with cost of shearing sheep

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway East TD Sean Canney says the Government must put a scheme in place to support farmers in the shearing of sheep.
It follows the recent publication of a long-awaited Wool Feasibility Study, which recommends a range of measures to develop and market Irish wool.
Deputy Canney says while it’s all hugely positive news, farmers do need some help in the meantime – such as a €5 shearing grant per sheep.
Speaking to Galway Talks, he says there is huge potential for wool in our economy.
