Driving through An Spidéal the other day, I spotted a 1990 BMW E30 320 three-door in pristine condition and was reminded of a ’87 model of the same car that remains the all-time favourite amongst the many cars that I have owned.
Back then, the gang and I went all over the country and some of them still remind me of how impressive it was. Since then, three is the magic number that remains to this day.
Car buyers don’t need reminding that BMW is one of the sought-after brands for many car enthusiasts, even those who might never dream of owning a new one. You don’t have to be an enthusiast to appreciate this car. Many buyers will aspire to owning a 5-Series but, for me the 3-Series is right up my street.
This week’s test car moves the 320d M Sport Saloon 2.0-litre diesel with two turbochargers shoots the 3-Series into a new zone. There aren’t too many places to test the limits of it power, handling and acceleration these days but, trust me, with its array of technology and underpinnings, you will get nothing but the absolute confidence when you get behind the wheel.
I could quibble about there being too much distraction for the driver inside, but that’s what the modern buyer wants and who am I to deprive them of their toys?
