Net subsidies account for 80 per cent of farm income in the West

Net subsidies accounted for 80 percent of agricultural income in the West last year.

That’s according to new figures compiled by the Central Statistics Office detailing regional accounts for agriculture.

The study records 298 million euro in net subsidies for the Western region in 2012.

This is from an operating surplus of 370 million euro.

Nationally, net subsidies accounted for over 73 percent of agricultural income.

The data also shows that 61 percent of national cattle output was produced in the Southern and Eastern regions.

For milk output, over 80 percent came from the Southern and Eastern region.

Just under 55 percent of sheep and close to 48 percent of pig output came from the Border, Midland and Western region.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The average house in Galway city takes just four weeks to sell, with prices rising by 3.1 percent between July and September.

In the city, the average house price is now €330,000, while in the county it has risen by 2.4 percent to €210,000.

Nationwide, there is disparity in the rate of inflation, with MyHome.ie registering a fall in asking prices of 1.3% in the third quarter of the year.

Drink and drug driving offences in Galway increased on last year

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Drink and drug driving offences in Galway have increased by almost 30 percent compared to this time last year.

The CSO has released the Crime Offences figures, which are still under Reservation.

It comes at the start of Irish Road Safety week (Monday 3 October to Sunday 10 October).

So far in 2022, 156 drivers have been discovered over the legal alcohol limit.

While 31 drivers have been caught under the influence of drugs in the county, according to CSO figures of the Galway Garda Division.

It’s a combined total of 187 incidents so far this year in Galway – an increase of 28 percent on the 146 reported incidents last year

Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Francis Duffy receives his Pallium from Primate of All-Ireland in Tuam Cathedral

Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Francis Duffy has received his Pallium from Primate of All-Ireland Archbishop Eamon Martin.

The Pallium is a woollen liturgical vestment worn only worn by Archbishops, Cardinals and Popes and was given to Archbishop Duffy as part of a Investiture Mass that took place in Tuam Cathedral on Sunday afternoon.

Present at the mass were the bishops of the Connacht province, the priests and religious of Tuam Archdiocese and representatives from the 56 parishes of the Archdiocese.

This is the moment the Pallium was conferred on Archbishop Duffy by Archbishop Martin.
