The Naomi Berrill Trio will be in the city’s Róisín Dubh this Saturday, March 15, as part of an Irish tour to celebrate the Headford woman’s latest album, Inish, a tribute to the Galway islands of Inishbofin and Inishark.

Now based in Florence, Naomi is promising an evening of “sound, nature, and connection”, at the concert, which is being promoted by the city’s Black Gate Cultural Centre.

Cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer-songwriter Naomi spans genres and disciplines, exploring  the cello’s potential as an instrument to accompany the voice. This album, her fourth, marked the beginning of her creative relationships with  Lorenzo Pellegrini (guitar, vocals, synth) and Andrea Beninati (cello, synth and drums). The album was released in Italy in 2023 and the trio have combined for live performances which offer a fresh combination of folk, classical and jazz.

They will play material from Inish, offering her reflections of life on Inishark and Inishbofin.

The main song from the album, Sea Warrior, is dedicated to the pirate queen Grace O’Malley, a historic woman of strength, courage and self-belief, who had strong connections with the Galway islands.

The trio will also be performing So It Goes, the story of a mother as she prepares to tell her children that their father, a fisherman, lost at sea, is gone from them forever. It’s based on Lost, a powerful poem on that theme by Cork poet Leanne O’Sullivan.

These and other songs from the album will be heard this Saturday evening at the Róisín, in the concert which starts at 7pm. Tickets €20, available at https://     www.tickettailor.com – type in Naomi Berrill, Black Gate.
