The heartbroken mother of a man missing for over three years clings to the hope her son is still alive this Christmas – and possibly living under the radar in Galway.
Cian Langelaan disappeared from Donegal in September 2020 and remains registered as a missing person with Millford Gardaí and Missing Persons Helpline Ireland.
Initially it was feared he died by suicide, but no body was found following several air, sea, and land searches.
And recently a woman came forward and claimed she saw Cian alive at Market Square in Dunfanaghy boarding a bus bound for Galway, on September 29, 2020 two days after he’d gone missing.
Speaking to the Connacht Tribune on Tuesday, December 5, on Cian’s 31st birthday, Anthea Langelaan said she believed it was a credible sighting – and she hoped her only child was possibly living ‘off-grid’ somewhere in Galway.
“Living with this ‘ambiguous loss’ is heartbreaking and devastating. Not knowing if he is dead or alive for three years has made life very difficult. He may be living rough on the streets of Galway, he may have moved on, but I must do all I can to try and find out,” said Ms Langelaan from her home in England.
The 27-year-old’s mental health had been ‘up and down’ in the years prior to his disappearance. He engaged with mental health services in Letterkenny Hospital until he was discharged on September 24, 2020.
*Anyone with information about Cian’s whereabouts is asked to call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
