Motorway due to re-open between Ballinasloe and Athlone
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The M6 motorway eastbound between Ballinasloe and Athlone is due to reopen around now. (3pm)
The road had been closed since 7am due to a collision.
A truck overturned on the route and it’s understood the truck driver has escaped serious injury.
Steps taken for the addition of a Sensory Garden in Loughrea
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local councillor is seeking to develop a Sensory Garden at the Long Point in Loughrea.
The outdoor amenity can help improve physical fitness, health, mood and cognition.
Councillor Geraldine Donohue thinks now is the time to consider adding one to Loughrea, as part of the “Vision of the Enhancement of the Long Point”.
Cllr Donohue says people in the community have been asking for this amenity for quite some time:
ATU Galway lodges plans for new monument dedicated to deceased students
Galway Bay fm newsroom – ATU Galway is planning to develop a new monument dedicated to deceased students of the college.
The university has requested permission to develop a new sculptural stone monument incorporating a memorial wall at its Dublin Road campus.
The proposed memorial will replace an existing memorial on site.
A decision on the plans is due at the beginning of May.
Galway Labour Councillor calls for Government to pass emergency legislation on the eviction ban
The Labour Party have confirmed to Galway Bay FM News that they will table a motion of no confidence in the Government on Wednesday next if emergency legislation on the eviction ban is not passed.
Legislation has been drafted that would extend the eviction ban and Labour leader Ivana Bacik has written to the Taoiseach asking if he would take it on as a government bill as only the government can pass emergency legislation to extend the ban on evictions in time for 1st April.
Councillor Neil McNelis told Galway Bay FM News that the party will support the Sinn Fein Motion that is to be brought before the Dáil this week.
However, if the Government does not act on the emergency legislation, he also confirmed that a motion of no confidence will tabled on Wednesday
He added that the ending of the Eviction Ban will be catastrophic for thousands of households.
