Minister urged to review changes to community welfare in South Connemara region

Published

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway West TD Sean Kyne has called on the Social Protection Minister to reconsider changes to the community welfare service in the South Connemara region.

The Fine Gael Deputy raised the matter in the Dáil this week where he highlighted concerns that the move is taking the ‘community’ out of community welfare provision.

Under the new system, services are organised through central Intreo offices throughout the county.

This includes offices in the city and in Clifden with another in Loughrea.

Deputy Kyne has suggested that a clinic is provided in Carraroe to make accessing services more manageable for the South Connemara region.

Speaking on Galway Talks, he says the Minister listened to his concerns regarding the geographical issues and will monitor the situation.
