Minister for Public Transport, Alan Kelly, says he is "positive" about proposals for a bike scheme in Galway.
The Minister of State made the comments during a discussion about public transport in Galway in the Dáil this week.
Galway East Fianna Fáil T.D, Micheál Kitt, asked if the Government would back various projects such as bus corridors, cycle lanes and the bike schemes.
Public bike schemes, similar to the one in Dublin, allow bicycle users to pick up and drop off bikes at different points across the city for a small charge.
The Government has committed to rolling out the scheme in regional cities if it gets the backing of the private sector.
