Senator Aisling Dolan....good news.

Three of Galway’s start-up success stories have all gone into the New Year with expansion plans – creating around ten high-end jobs each in the process.

The continued expansion of these Enterprise Ireland-supported companies – based in the med-tech and new technology sectors – are a ringing endorsement of enterprise in the west, according to Galway Senator Aisling Dolan.

Palliare, a medical device company founded in 2018 as a spinout from Irish gastro-diagnostic company Crospon, has hired ten new employees in recent months.

Flexwork company, Ronspot intends to have a total of ten new employees on board by spring 2021, and has hired five people since September.

Ronspot – based in the GMIT Innovation Hub – is a technology company which enables the flexible workplace between office and home.

And Venari Medical – a spin-out from the BioInnovate Ireland fellowship programme for medical device innovation at NUIG – filled three new positions in October, with plans to recruit up to ten new employees in the coming months.

Senator Dolan described the jobs as a vote of confidence in graduates in the west.

“It shows that the dynamic MedTech research in the west has a strong ecosystem with third level underpinned by Enterprise Ireland and the seed capital investment support from the Western Development Commission,” she said.

“It is wonderful to see Irish innovation rising to the top, competing internationally and winning global export markets. Enterprise Ireland champions Irish based innovative companies and crucially supports early-stage development,” she added.

Údarás na Gaeltachta...Covid support.

Údarás na Gaeltachta has approved over €7.4m in vital Covid-19 supports to assist Gaeltacht businesses still dealing with the challenges created by the pandemic.

To date over 435 Gaeltacht companies have benefited from various Údarás Covid-19 support schemes to ensure that they have the appropriate advice and plan in place to address difficulties, to ensure cash flow and to assist them in accessing global sales markets online.

Údarás na Gaeltachta, in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland, has approved €6.4m in support funding to businesses located in the Gaeltacht to assist them with sustaining business, training, research and financial planning.

As a result of the longstanding memorandum of understanding between Údarás and Enterprise Ireland, Gaeltacht businesses employing ten or more people and exporting products and services can avail of Enterprise Ireland support schemes in a similar manner to other businesses throughout the country.

To that end, Údarás has approved substantial supports for Gaeltacht businesses over the past few months through a range of different supports and schemes.

The ADVANCER, which came to life in Thermo King’s manufacturing site in Galway. The project has today been awarded the title of Engineering Endeavour of 2020.

A project with its genesis in Galway – with the aim of reducing its customers’ carbon footprint by one gigaton by 2030 – has been awarded the prestigious title of Engineering Endeavour of 2020 by Engineers Ireland and ESB.

The ADVANCER project, developed by Galway-based Thermo King and their parent company Trane Technologies, was awarded the prestigious accolade having featured in Engineers Ireland’s Engineering Excellence Digital Series, held in association with ESB, and was chosen by the public and members of Engineers Ireland as the top engineering project of 2020 following an online vote.

Trane Technologies, with global headquarters in Swords, Co. Dublin, is a global leader in efficient and sustainable climate innovation for buildings, homes and transportation, employing close to 1,000 people in Ireland, and 36,000 employees globally.

The ADVANCER project, which includes an innovative trailer refrigeration unit and manufacturing line in Galway, was developed by Thermo King in response to their parent company’s 2030 sustainability aspirations, and the commitment to reduce their customers’ CO2 emissions by one gigaton by 2030 – equivalent to 2% of the world’s annual emissions or, the annual emissions of France, Italy and the UK combined.

Built with ambitious sustainability goals at its core, the ADVANCER trailer refrigeration unit has been developed using all-new Mild Hybrid electrified architecture, creating a new standard for performance, fuel efficiency, temperature control and environmental sustainability for trailer refrigeration units.

The Thermo King team also developed a world class sustainable assembly line in Galway which utilises 100% renewable energy and is now on track to become the first carbon neutral assembly line in the sector.
