Man who died in Ballinrobe traffic incident was Athenry native

The man who died in last evening’s traffic incident in Ballinrobe has been named locally as Athenry native Dr. Martin Finnerty.

The GP died after he was struck by a car in the town shortly after 6:30pm

Main Street in Ballinrobe was closed overnight and reopened earlier today.

Dr Finnerty, who was in his 60s and from Athenry had operated a GP practice in Cornmarket for many years.

The father-of-three was highly respected by his patients and the wider community.

A man in his 30s arrested in connection with the incident has since been released without charge.
