GARDAÍ have questioned a man in the Loughrea area in relation to the theft of election posters last month.
A total of 14 posters were recovered by Gardaí after a search of a house in the Loughrea area on May 23 last.
The search revealed five posters each for Cllr. Michael ‘Moegie’ Maher (FG) and Euro Green Party candidate, Senator Pauline O’Reilly; and two each for Fianna Fáil local election candidates, Mark Larkin and Shane Curley.
A small electronic tracking device placed on one of the posters resulted in Gardaí being alerted – they later traced the missing poster to a premises in the Loughrea area.
In a follow-up search under warrant, a total of 14 posters were discovered and a man in his 30s – not previously known to Gardaí – was questioned in relation to the thefts.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Connacht Tribune that 14 posters had been recovered and that a man had been questioned in relation to the incidents. “A file is being prepared for forwarding to the DPP,” said the Garda spokesperson.
