Man for trial for ‘arranged fight’

A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged “arranged fight” in Ballinasloe town last month.

Bernie Corcoran (32), with an address at 4 Creggane, Ballinasloe, is charged that on October 30 at St Michael’s Square, he committed affray with another named male, contrary to section 16 of the Public Order Act.

Sergeant Christy Browne handed in a schedule of the accused’s arrest, charge and caution.

He told the court this was a recent matter and directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on how the case is to proceed, remain outstanding.

Judge James Faughnan enquired what the case was about, and Sgt Browne said it is alleged the accused and another male met in St Michael’s Square for “what appeared to be an arranged fight”.

Judge Faughnan adjourned the case to January 26.
