A 45-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with a public order incident in Ballinasloe last Wednesday.
Denis Cosgrave, with an address at 2 Dunlo Haven, Ballinasloe, appeared at Ballinasloe District Court charged with offences contrary to the Criminal Justice Public Order Act. The charges arise from an incident in Main Street, Ballinasloe on October 22.
Garda William Dilleen gave evidence of arresting the accused on Main Street and conveying him to Ballinasloe Garda Station.
Cosgrave was charged with two offences and made no reply when the charges were put to him after caution. The accused was released on bail to appear again in court on December 4.
In the case, Denis Cosgrave is charged with being intoxicated to such an extent as would give rise to a reasonable apprehension that he might endanger himself or any other person in his vicinity, contrary to Section 4 of the Public Order Act.
He is also charged with using or engaging in threatening, abusive or implying words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace may be occasioned, contrary to Section 6 of the Act.
