Man due in court over car damage in city

A 20 year old man is due to appear in court this afternoon in connection with alleged criminal damage to a number of cars in the city overnight.

16 cars were damaged in the Whitestrand Road, Fr. Griffin Road and Lower Salthill areas at around 3.30 this morning.

A 20 year old Brazilian man was arrested in the general area after Gardai were alerted.

He was taken to Millstreet Garda Station for questioning and is due to appear at Galway courthouse this afternoon.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Works are underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort, Loughrea and Athenry

Irish Water and Galway County Council say the Gort and Loughrea outage has been caused by technical issues overnight at the Seefin Reservoir and Gort water treatment plant.

There is also a major leak on the watermain network at Raheen, Athenry resulting in water outage at Raheen Road, Moanbaun GWS, Prospect and Derrydonnell Road.

A contractor is expected on site shortly to carry out the repair works.

Plans for Bubble Tea Shop at Abbeygate Street

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Plans are underway for a Bubble Tea Shop at Abbeygate Street.

The plan is led by Esma Awad and would see the conversion of an existing retail unit at 26 Abbeygate Street Lower.

The planning application stresses that a Bubble Tea Shop is not a coffee shop nor does it produce any type of heat or steam.

However, planners have deemed the application incomplete and a fresh application will now have to be submitted.

Eamon O’ Cuiv slams Government “petty-mindedness” over Traveller accommodation

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway West TD Eamon O’ Cuiv has hit out at Government “petty mindedness” when it comes to Traveller accommodation.

He said quite rightly, we give out about the conditions for people looking for asylum and for students.

But speaking in the Dáil, he implied that Travellers are not afforded the same consideration.

Fianna Fail Deputy O’ Cuiv took aim at a pilot programme to provide loans for new caravans – which he suggested has amounted to very little in practice.
