Man charged with €3,000 damage to Galway hair salon

BY RONAN JUDGE
A man has appeared in court charged with causing €3,000 of damage to a hair salon on the Tuam Road on Tuesday.
Thomas Sokowlowski (52), with an address at Fairgreen Hostel, was released on conditional bail after a brief appearance at Galway District Court.
Sergeant Joanne McGhee handed in schedules of the accused's arrest, charge and caution, and told the Court directions would be required from the Director of Public Prosecutions on how the case is to proceed.
Sgt McGhee said the State did not object to bail, subject to the accused abiding by certain conditions.
The court heard Sokowlowski must stay away from Liosbán Industrial Estate and have no contact with the alleged injured party.
He must sign on twice a week at a local Garda station and observe a curfew.
Solicitor John Martin's application for legal aid was granted after the court was told the accused was not working.
Judge Fiona Lydon remanded the accused on bail to appear again on November 17.
In the case, Sokowlowski is charged with an offence contrary to section 2 (1) of the Criminal Damage Act.
The charge alleges that on September 23 at Gorgeous Locks, Unit 19, Town Park Centre, Tuam Road, Galway, Sokowlowski did without lawful excuse, cause €3000 of damage to a property, a salon premises, intending to damage property or being reckless as to whether such property would be damaged.
