Man accused of burglary that traumatised family to seek bail in High Court Man accused of burglary that traumatised family to seek bail in High Court

By Ronan Judge

A 30-year-old man alleged to have carried out a burglary at a home in Salthill that left a family “traumatised” is to apply for bail in the High Court.

Ryan Goldbey, who had addresses at Sandy Road; Fána Búrca, Knocknacarra; and Dún Áras, Bishop O’Donnell Road; faces two charges of burglary at the house and at a separate, neighbouring property, also in Salthill, on November 22, 2025.

He is also accused of handling stolen bank cards at Seapoint Casino and stealing monies totalling €300, also on November 22.

Eight other charges under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act include two allegations of theft at Dealz, Headford Road Shopping Centre, on November 6 and 24. He is also charged with burglary at Dealz on November 6.

Goldbey is further charged with stealing cosmetics, perfume and toiletries worth €1,000 from Leo Walsh Pharmacy, Shangort Road, on June 20 and stealing a further €1,000 worth of goods from the same business on  June 11/12.

He is also accused of stealing groceries from Tesco, Newcastle Road, on February 12 and stealing brandy and refills for an electric toothbrush from Tesco, Knocknacarra, on June 15.

He appeared at Galway District Court via video-link having previously been refused bail.

Sergeant Claire Heneghan told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed summary disposal of the alleged offences at Dealz, Headford Road, in the District Court.

After hearing a summary of the alleged facts, Judge Adrian Harris accepted jurisdiction to hear the case in the District Court.

Sgt Heneghan said directions were still awaited on how the other burglary charges were to proceed.

Defence solicitor John Martin asked that his client be remanded for a further two weeks.

He said an application for bail was due before the High Court and there should be an outcome by the next court date,

Judge Harris remanded the accused in custody to appear again on February 4.

Goldbey was refused bail at his first appearance at Galway District Court in December.

Outlining the State’s objections to bail, Detective Garda Ronan Leonard said it is alleged Ryan Goldbey forced open the door of a house in Salthill at around 3.15am on November 22, 2025, rummaged around and stole three bank cards.

The court heard two parents and their children were asleep in the house at the time.

Detective Leonard said that after the alleged burglary at the family home, Goldbey then went to the casino at Seapoint and used the cards for 10 ‘tapping’ transactions of €30 each.

The bank blocked the cards due to the suspicious activity and a person alleged to be the accused was captured on CCTV.

Detective Leonard said this alleged offence was serious and the family had recently travelled from the United States to Ireland for work commitments and were “quite traumatised”.

Detective Leonard said that the evidence in the case was strong and Gardaí would have serious concerns should the accused be granted bail.
