A location has been chosen for the new elective hospital at Merlin Park.
Galway West Fianna Fáil TD John Connolly has confirmed the Cystic Fibrosis zone at the existing hospital will host the new build.
The design team has been put in place, and site investigation works are to get underway next before a planning application can be lodged.
