Galway Bay fm newsroom – EU countries have a responsiblity to secure sufficient availability of safe and controlled cannabis for medicinal purposes.
That’s the opinion of MEP for this region, Mairead McGuiness – following a vote to support more research into medicinal cannabis in the EU Parliament.
MEP McGuiness says the vote text clearly identifies a need for increased knowledge among medical professionals.
She also believes appropriate points of sale with relevant restrictions should be established and harmonised across the EU.
However, she’s keen to point out that no EU state permits the personal growing or smoking of cannabis for any purpose.
MEP McGuiness says she knows people who have benefitted from using cannabis for medicinal reasons.
Vodafone secures permission to replace telecommunications infrastructure in Oranmore with larger structure
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Vodafone Ireland has secured planning permission to replace a telecommunications structure on Main Street in Oranmore with a taller piece of infrastructure.
An Bord Pleanála has given the project the green light subject to six conditions.
The project led by Vodafone Ireland Limited seeks to remove an existing 15 metres telecommunications support structure and replace it with a new 24 metre unit.
County Planners refused the application in February citing concerns including that the development would be visually obtrusive, would seriously injure the amenities if the area and the value of property in the vicinity.
An Bord Pleanála has overturned the county council decision in granting permission with revised conditions.
One states the mast and all associated antennas and equipment are removed from the site when no longer required.
Protest in Galway City this afternoon in opposition to British Government legacy proposals
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – A protest will take place in Galway city this afternoon in opposition to the British Government’s legacy proposals.
The families of the Time for Truth Campaign are behind the National Day of Action against the proposed amnesty preventing prosecutions for conflict related offences.
Sinn Féin Galway West TD Mairéad Farrell will be the guest speaker at the Galway protest which takes place in Eyre Square at 2pm.
