Moycullen 1-11
Naomh Anna Leitir Móir 2 – 8
By Mike Rafferty in Rosmuc
WHEN sport is your passion, your local club is at the centre of the community and never more was this exemplified than in Rosmuc on Sunday as Naomh Anna Leitir Móir played as if their lives depended on it.
Last year’s Intermediate champions had made the step up to senior level and without having to depend on results elsewhere, Leitir Móir knew they required at least a point to avoid going down the relegation route and preserving their status in the senior championship.
With just four minutes plus additional time remaining, they were five point down at 1-11 to 1-6 and with very little prospect of a positive outcome. Elsewhere down the road, Oughterard were well ahead of An Spidéal and thus looking like saving themselves and sending Leitir Móir into the relegation tangle.
It was about now the real committment, passion and drive of Leitir Móir came to the fore as a Myles Mac Donnacha goal threw them a lifeline and they continued on their rescue mission as subsequent points from Dylan Seoige and Mac Donnacha levelled matters with literally the last action of the game.
The evidence of their achievement and their happiness was obvious afterwards. It was hand shakes and hugs all round as the players remained on the pitch for a long time afterwards as Leitir Móir soaked up the congratulations of their large band of supporters.
