The final seat in Loughrea will be filled after the next court with the field down to two – outing Fine Gael Councillor Ivan Canning and newcomer Ailish O’Reilly of Sinn Féin.

Cllr Canning holds a lead of almost 600 votes and, with the last eliminated candidate, Mark Larkin going out on 761, that looks an insurmountable gap to bridge.

Aontú’s Luke Silke has been eliminated after the eleventh count for the Tuam LEA. Shaun Cunniffe is 118 votes from a seat, with Silke’s 893 votes to be distributed now.
