The film Kings, which received its premiere at Galway’s Film Fleadh this year and which is Ireland’s entry for Best Foreign Film in the 80th Academy Awards, will open in cinemas nationwide this Friday.
Written and directed by Oughterard based filmmaker Tom Collins, Kings is based on Jimmy Murphy’s play, Kings of The Kilburn High Road and promises to be of particular interest to Galway audiences.
Starring Colm Meaney and told mainly in Irish with English subtitles, Kings follows six young Connemara men who, after the closure of the local factory in 1977, set off to make their fortune in England. Their intention is to make a fortune and return home as kings.
