Justice Minister to address event at NUIG to mark International Women’s Day

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Justice Minister Helen McEntee will address an event at NUI Galway to mark International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day takes place tomorrow Monday, March 8th, and is a global focal point for women’s rights and equality.

To celebrate the day, the LawSoc at NUI Galway has formed a panel of some of Ireland’s most successful women, who will reflect on their contributions to society and what the future holds.

Key speakers include Justice Minister Helen McEntee, and Deputy Commissioner of An Garda Siochana, Anne-Marie McMahon.

They’ll be joined by former President of the Law Society of Ireland, Michele O’ Boyle, and Chair of the Bar of Ireland, Maura McNally SC.

They’ll discuss their current occupations, achievements, and obstacles encountered, as well as share advice for those aspiring to become future leaders.

The public event will take place on Zoom tomorrow at 5PM and registration is required.

Week-long roadworks to cause disruption on R446 near Loughrea

Galway bay FM Newsroom – Roadworks will get underway on the R446 near Loughrea from tomorrow (March 8th).

The five day road resurfacing works will take place along a stretch of the road between Kilreekil and Kilmeen.

During that time, a stop/go system will be in place between the hours of 7.45am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays and allow additional times for their journeys.

Numbers remaining steady regarding patients with Covid 19 in Galway Hospitals.

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Figures released by the HSE overnight have shown that the number of patients with Covid 19 in Galway hospitals remains steady with a slight increase in the number of patients in Galway university and a slight increase in suspected cases in Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe.

Last night it was reported that nine patients were in Galway University Hospital with the virus as compared to eight on Friday but figures also showed that there were just two in ICU, a reduction of one from the day before.

The number of suspected cases has also fallen with no suspected cases in the hospital yesterday compared to 6 on Friday.

In Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, the opposite was the case with a reduction of patients in hospital but an increase in suspected cases.

As of yesterday evening there were just two with Covid 19 in Hospital with none in ICU, a reduction in the number of patients and no change in ICU compared to the day before.

However, there are four suspected cases in Ballinasloe, an increase of two from the day before.

National figures released yesterday reported 539 cases with 21 of those cases reported in Galway City and County.
