Supper Theatre will return to Galway next month with two shows from the popular KATS theatre group running over three nights in the Galway Bay Hotel.
The short comedies are Carrie McWethy’s Don’t Blame Me, I’m Just The Playwright and Michael J. Ginnelly’s Wake In The West
Don’t Blame Me, I’m Just The Playwright, written by American actor, writer, comedian Carrie McWethy, is a comedy about difficulties that arise as people are trying to stage a drama.
Two playwrights are polishing the script of their new show ahead of its Broadway run. However, there’s trouble in store when a whiz-kid producer brings in a team of hack writers to ‘improve’ their dialogue, adding fart jokes; a corporate sponsor to introduce product placement; and a diva actress who brings her own baggage.
The playwrights must struggle to hold on to their vision and their integrity in this drama, directed by Stephen Macken for KATS.
Wake In the West by the late Mayo writer, Michael J. Ginnelly, which was first staged by KATS in 2016, is being revived as a tribute to Ginnelly, who was a great friend of the society.
Tom Healy’s dying wish to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at sea causes uproar and chaos. Between his daughter Mary’s exasperation, his son Martin’s return from America and the well-intentioned, but disastrous involvement of locals Barney, Rose Davitt and the village priest, his wake becomes a riot of laughter and misunderstandings, but also an event full of heart. Wake in the West is directed by Pat Lally.
KATS Supper Theatre will be in the Ballyvaughan Suite of the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill from Tuesday to Thursday, December 9-11, inclusive. Doors are at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available at www.gr8events.ie/annual-supper-theatre-kats.
