DEFENDING All-Ireland senior camogie champions Sarsfields will take on St Vincent’s of Dublin on Saturday in Birr (1:30pm), in a contest which is highly anticipated by camogie followers nationwide.
After securing their fourth consecutive county title last month with a victory over Oranmore/Maree, Hopper McGrath’s charges now put their All-Ireland crown on the line against the Marino based club.
The two teams last met at the same stage of the All-Ireland series in January 2020 when Sarsfields recorded a 1-13 to 0-8 victory in Nenagh. On that occasion, Rachel Murray’s goal was the catalyst for a dominant performance from McGrath’s charges who scored the final five points of the game to record a convincing victory.
The east Galway club went on to defeat Derry side Slaughtneil in the final to win their first senior All-Ireland in March of 2020. Sarsfields’ consistency at this level has been outstanding in recent years and they are looking to qualify for their fourth consecutive All-Ireland decider. They will certainly face stiff opposition however, in the shape of the Dublin senior champions.
St Vincent’s overcame a formidable Oulart the Ballagh side, who were going for their third Leinster title in a row, last month. Sarsfields know all about the capabilities of the Wexford club, who were the last team to defeat them in the 2021 All-Ireland final.
