HSE criticised for converting church at Tuam nursing home into extra rooms
Galway bay fm newsroom – A Tuam town councillor says the HSE’s decision to convert a church at a nursing home into extra rooms is a retrograde and uneccesary step.
Tom Reilly says public representatives were not made aware of the plans for Aras Mhuire nursing home on the outskirts of Tuam and works are already underway.
In a statement, the HSE says the remodelling works are taking place in response to the ever increasing demand for beds.
It adds that Saturday mass will continue to be celebrated and a dedicated oratory similar to other community nursing units will also be constructed.

Request for more time to build sports facility at Inishbofin appealed to planning board
From Galway Bay FM newsroom- The county council’s refusal of an application for more time to develop a sports facility at Inishbofin has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The plan led by Inishbofin Development Company C-L-G to request extra time for the project was refused by the council in April.
The development at Middlequarter involves a single storey sports facility to include dressing rooms, referee room, showers and toilets.
An Bord Pleanála is due to issue a decision in September.

As with previous years, there will be a wide range of classes in categories such as showjumping, equine, sheep and dog showing, and baking.
Many categories will hold championships, and a range of qualifiers for other shows throughout the country will also be available.
