Hospital Group to hold first city public board meeting

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Members of the public are invited to attend and observe a board meeting of the Galway Roscommon Hospital Group in the city tomorrow evening.

The first such public meeting of its kind takes place at the Nurses Home in UHG (June 18).

Tomorrow’s city meeting follows a meeting held in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe last month – the first since Health Minister James Reilly announced an expansion of the group.

It now includes Mayo, Letterkenny and Sligo hospitals.

The four item agenda for tomorrow’s meeting opens with an address by Chairman Noel Daly.

Claims Galway Ring Road case “defining moment” for national transport policy

Galway Bay fm newsroom – An engineering expert says the Galway Ring Road case is a “defining moment” for national transport policy.

Brian Caulfield is a Professor of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin.

He says this can be seen as a test case – which effectively puts public transport up against private transport.

It’s as An Bord Pleanala is to reconsider an application for the Galway Ring Road, after permission was quashed on environmental grounds.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Professor Caulfield says he believes there needs to be massive investment in public transport outside Dublin.

Galway registered over 2,000 new .ie websites in 2022

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 2,000 new .ie websites were registered by Galway organisations last year.

According to the .IE Domain Profile Report for 2022, Galway recorded the third highest level of such registrations.

Last year’s figures found there was an increase of almost 10 percent in .ie domain registered in Galway versus pre-pandemic.

Nationally, there were almost 50,000 new .ie domains registered, with around 10 percent of them in Connacht.

Call for new public bus service between Ballinasloe and Athlone

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local senator is calling for a new public bus service to be established between Ballinasloe and Athlone.

Senator Aisling Dolan says while there are commercial operators on the route, there’s no service serving the old Galway Road through the town.

She argues it’s of vital importance given the location of Portiuncula Hospital.
