Claregalway resident Holly Geraghty, who is originally from Ballindine, County Mayo, launched her debut solo album this week, in Westport.

The 10-track release, Musical Musings from Mayo, was  launched on Wednesday, in Matt Molloy’s Pub. The album pays tribute to the people, music and landscape of Holly’s Mayo, featuring a blend of old and newly-composed Irish traditional music that’s deeply connected to the region.

Guest artists on the album include Matt Griffin on guitar, Dan Bodwell/Caimin Gilmore on double bass, and Maria Ryan/Lucia MacPartlin on violin.

A well-known harper, composer, and educator, Holly was Immersed in the world of traditional music from childhood. Her first instrument was the concertina and that was followed by the harp. She has won many All-Ireland titles on both instruments and has showcased her talent across Europe, Britain, America, and Canada, while also nurturing budding musicians at academic institutions and festivals at home and abroad.

Holly has a Bachelor of Music, a Graduate Diploma in Music Education, a Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance, and a Postgraduate Diploma in School Leadership. Her 2009 album, Ceolmhar, which she recorded with accordion player Jonathan Roche, was very well received. Now, her new solo offering, Musical Musings from Mayo, is available at www.hollygeraghty.com and on major streaming platforms.
