History to be made in Rossaveal harbour with gathering of Galway Hookers

Galway Bay fm newsroom – History is to be made in Rossaveal harbour tomorrow with a unique gathering of Galway Hookers.
It will be the first time ever 20 of the special boats will be tied side by side as the Galway Hooker Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Many of the crafts on display are over 150 years old and have been handed down through generations of families.
The event includes sailing and equipment demonstrations, talks and a barbeque on the pier while the the crews will conduct personalised tours.
The celebration will take place at Rossaveel Harbour from noon until 6pm tomorrow
Donncha Mac Con Iomaire from the Galway Hooker association says the craft are an important asset to Galways tourism potential.

Tuam student wins award for outstanding business and accounting Leaving Cert results

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The inaugural N17 Plaza Business Award has been presented to University of Galway student, Eimhin Mulligan.

The award, exclusive to St Jarlath’s College in Tuam, is aimed at encouraging students to pursue careers related to business.

Eimhin, who did the Leaving Cert last year, excelled in both business and accounting exams

He’s now studying for a Commerce Degree at University of Galway.

Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh, presented the cash prize and a plaque at a function at the secondary school campus in Tuam

Appeal to An Bord Pleanala over apartment block at Ballymoneen Road

Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala against approval for an apartment development at Ballymoneen Road.

The project, led by Crescent Co. Ownership, would include 17 apartments in a mix of single and two-bed units.

The three-story building would be located on a site near the existing Portacarron estate and the Western Distributor Road junction.

The plans were given the green light by city planners earlier this month.

An appeal has now been lodged with An Bord Pleanala – with a decision due in May.

New care programme for older people launched at embattled Clifden District Hospital

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new care programme for older people has been launched at Clifden District Hospital.

The clinic aims to cater to those with complex health and social care needs in their own community.

The new clinic comes amid long-running local concerns on the future of the hospital, difficulty in recruiting staff, and the downgrading of services.

The First Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons – or ICPOP – is a one-stop shop for those with complex health and social care needs.

It aims to shift the delivery of care away from acute hospitals towards community based, planned and co-ordinated care.

The team will work closely with local GP’s and Primary Care staff, in line with the vision for Sláintecare.

Galway Bay fm news contacted the HSE for comment, but was told no-one was available at this time to discuss the new clinic.
