So, have you maintained your new year’s fitness regime? The weather hasn’t been the best since Christmas for those evening spurts. But that hasn’t deterred an army of women and men in high-vis vests from gathering in groups for leisurely jogs across Galway City.
In my community centre, a Women on the Move initiative by the Galway Sports Partnership was booked out in a couple of hours. It offered two evenings a week fitness classes for eight weeks at a cost of just €10. Unbelievable value.
Watch out for these classes in many locations across County Galway. But be quick, unlike me, who missed out at the start. I have snuck in on week 3 after putting my name on a waitlist.
A couple of us are meeting for a walk over in the Westside two evenings a week under lights – albeit very dimmed ones.
The track is lovely to walk on for those of us with rickety knees but lately it’s so busy we have to revert to the tarred walkway to give way to the runners. Which is really great to see.
If you are exercising or doing a stiff gym session, try to eat around two to three hours beforehand.
