Gardaí are investigating the suspected deliberate burning of scrubland in North Galway.
Firefighters spent several hours on Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning trying to bring the significant blaze near Tuam under control.
The fires quickly spread across around two acres of bogland in the Cloondarone area.
Gardai in Tuam are investigating the possibility that they were set deliberately in order to clear areas of the bog.
The fires raged for several hours before they were brought under control by three units of Tuam Fire Brigade and around 20 firefighters later that night and into the early morning. Gardaí were also present at the scene.
