Gardaí investigate aggravated burglarly in city centre

Galway bay fm newsroom – A substantial sum of money has been stolen during a robbery in the city.

The cash was taken from a house on Eyre Street –  at around 4 o’clock this morning.

A man – understood to be the owner of a nearby bar – was tied up by two men during the aggravated burglary.

However its understood he was not injured during the incident.

Gardai at Millstreet Station in Galway are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Works paused at Roscam amid concerns over potential “traffic disaster”

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Works in Roscam have been paused amid concerns over a potential “traffic disaster”.

Active Travel Works were taking place at the junction with Doughiska Road at Spar, which would have reduced traffic to a single lane.

Councillor Alan Cheevers says this would have been absolutely crazy, given the chaotic impact it would have on local traffic coming in and out of Roscam.

He claims the area is already a major issue because of a history of bad planning, allowing almost 800 homes but only one access road.

Councillor Cheevers says this plan needs to really go back to the drawing board.

Demand for housing up 9 percent in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Demand for housing in Galway is up by 9 percent when compared to this time last year.

That’s according to the latest figures from property website Daft.ie.

Nationally, demand is up by 17 percent when compared to May 2022.

The largest increase in demand is Dublin at 34 percent, followed by 26 percent in Limerick and 13 percent in Cork.

Daft.ie Chief Commercial Officer, Adam Ferguson describes why there’s so much interest in new homes.

Gardaí appeal over attack on homes in Rahoon by armed gang

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an armed gang attacked homes in the Rahoon area.

Shortly after 9pm on Thursday, May 25th, Gardaí were made aware of an armed gang in the Droim Chaoin estate on the Bishop O’ Donnell Road..

A number of males were reported to be carrying weapons including axes, machetes and bats.

They caused extensive damage to two homes, and left the scene in a number of vehicles.

Gardai are also investigating reports of a firearm being discharged, but no injuries were reported.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those with dash-cam footage who were travelling around Droim Chaoin between 8.45pm and 9.30pm.

They’re asked to contact Galway Gardaí, the Garda confidential line, or any Garda Station.
