Gardai appeal for witnesses following spate of Athenry break ins

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a spate of break-ins in Athenry town overnight.
Intruders forced their way into three retail premises and stole a quantity of cash before attempting to gain access to a fourth business.

Sometime between the hours of midnight and 7am, raiders forced their way into three separate retail premises in Athenry town.
It’s understood that in one case, entry was gained after a glass panel was smashed, while in another, a back door was kicked in.
A sum of cash was taken from all three premises – however, it’s believed the overall figure involved is not significant.
An attempt was made to access a nearby fourth premises, but this proved unsuccessful.
Gardai are now appealing for witnesses who may have been around the town between midnight and 7am and who may have noticed anything suspicious.
CCTV is also being examined as part of the investigation.

Gardai in Mayo renew their appeal for Information on the 22nd Anniversary of the disappearance of Sandra Collins

Gardai in Ballina Co Mayo have renewed their appeal for Information on the 22nd Anniversary of the disappearance of Sandra Collins.

Sandra Collins was last seen on the night of Monday, 4th December 2000 at approximately 11pm in the Country Kitchen premises on George’s Street, Killala, Co. Mayo.

She was 28 years old at the time of her disappearance.

The search for Sandra has continued over the past 22 years and the investigation into her disappearance remains active.

An Garda Síochána and the Collins family are encouraging anyone who might have information, which perhaps they thought was insignificant at the time, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, Crimestoppers 1800 250 025 or any Garda station.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local TD says the announcement of 2.5 million euro in additional funding for the broadcasting sector is a “vital lifeline” for local radio.

The allocation has been made through the Sound and Vision Scheme, which provides grants for the creation of high-quality programmes.

Galway East Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon says local radio provides a very important public service and deserves greater support.

TFI Local Link to launch new service between Ballinasloe and Castlerea

Galway Bay fm newsroom – TFI Local Link Galway will launch a new service between Ballinasloe and Castlerea on Monday.

Route 546 will operate three times a day in each direction.

It’ll cover Castlerea, Williamstown, Glenamaddy, Kilkerrin, Moylough, Mountbellew, Caltra, Ahascragh and Ballinasloe.

The new service will also provide commuters with a new peak-time service that interchanges with direct services to Galway from Ballinasloe.
