Galway musician Laoise McMullin will be in concert on Thursday next, February 13 in the Siobhán McKenna Theatre at the University of Galway at 1pm.
The event is a collaboration between Music for Galway and Arts in Action at the university and features a woman who is no stranger to MfG. In previous years, Laoise was a trusted page-turner for the organisation and all involved in MfG are now delighted to welcome her back on stage as a pianist and composer. Laoise will perform works by Bach, Chopin and Albeniz.
These lunchtime concerts have been designated Relaxed Performances. The aim is to create a welcoming space for everyone, so that people can enjoy the best of music, with an awareness that some people in the audience might benefit from a more relaxed setting.
As part of making these concerts more accessible, performers themselves introduce the pieces they have chosen to play, rather than having written programme notes for the events.
The idea of Relaxed Performances also means that everyone – including the artists – will be accepting and welcoming if there’s movement or noise, on the basis that enjoyment comes in all shapes and sizes.
Admission is free but space is at a premium. Booking is essential and can be done at www.musicforgalway.ie.
