Treaty United 0
Galway United 3
WE have seen talent and ability from this Galway United squad this season, we have seen skill and character and dominance, but we saw something new in the Markets Field last Friday: maturity.
The home side looked to be itching for a fight, to draw their visitors into a scrap, to see them lose their discipline and composure and leave them vulnerable to a mugging, but United were having none of it as the men in maroon let their superiority do the talking to see them ease to a comfortable victory.
It would have been easy to get dragged into an arm-wrestle, to lose their composure and meet a push with a shove, a dig with an elbow, a trip with a kick, but instead of tit-for-tat, United rose above all that, and in letting their footballing ability do all the talking, they eased to all three points.
Twice in the opening stages former United striker, Enda Curran, hit the deck in the penalty area, but twice, referee Chris Sheehan waved play-on. At the other end, as United prepared to take a corner, Treaty goalkeeper Shane Hallinan bent over as if gut-punched by Rob Manley, who had been booked just a minute earlier.
