Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway Fine Gael TD says recent employment figures for the west prove that the government jobs measures are working.
Figures compiled by the CSO show that the unemployment rate in the west stands at 13.5%.
That’s down 1.8 percentage points from the 15.3% recorded during the comparable period of the second quarter of 2012.
The west’s participation rate – which is defined as the number of people aged 15 or over in the labour force as a percentage of the whole population – is the highest of all the regions in the country, including Dublin.
Deputy Sean Kyne says the figures show we’re moving in the right direction.
