Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway West TD is calling on the Minister for Agriculture to meet commonage farmers to discuss new criteria for the Single Farm Payment.
Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon O’ Cuiv says there is confusion over whether or not farmers can be penalised under the new criteria for not keeping commonage in good condition.
Deputy O’ Cuiv says that degradation of commonage areas are caused by out of date stocking limits set by the Department of Agriculture without input from farmers.
He is calling on Minister Simon Coveney to sit down with farmers to reach an agreement based on the individual knowledge of each case.
