Galway singer-songwriter Sara Gerdine had just released her debut single, Feathers on the Ground.
Sara, who grew up in a musical family in Corrandulla, initially studied Art and Design after leaving school, but then decided to take a break from college. That was when she took up the guitar and within a couple of months, she had written her first song.
Soon after, Sara began gigging around Galway and the West, gaining a loyal following as she performed at events including the Fringe Festival and Boyle Arts Festival, and further afield at Celtic Connections. She also performed, and continues to perform, at charity events supporting organisations such as Cancer Care West. She also continued to write new songs.
Sara then returned to college and fulfilled a lifelong dream when she studied classical singing in the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin. She graduated with honours from the three-year course.
While retaining her love of classical music, Sara ultimately felt drawn back to her roots in folk and country music. She dusted off songs that had lain in the attic for years and brought them back to life, along with more recent compositions.
Her debut single, Feathers on the Ground, which she wrote following the death of a loved one, is a delicate folk ballad. Underlaid with haunting piano, fiddle and steel guitar melodies the evocative song explores the themes of love and loss.
Sara’s greatest wish is that Feathers on the Ground will bring comfort to listeners who have also lost a loved one.
It’s available now on all streaming platforms.
