Cassiopeia Winds will give two concerts in Galway next week. The first is on Wednesday, October, 23, in Galway City, at 7.30pm, in the top floor of the Genesys Building on Bonham Quay
The following night, Thursday, October 24, the leading Irish wind quintet will perform the same programme in Kilcummin Church, Oughterard, again at 7.30pm.
These concerts are part of Music for Galway’s 2024-25 programme.
The quintet takes its name from the constellation in the northern sky which is formed by five bright stars, and is made up of Matthew Manning, oboe; Catriona Ryan, flute; Deirdre O’Leary, clarinet; Cormac Ó hAodáin, French horn; and John Hearne, bassoon.
They came together in 2010 thanks to a shared passion for wind music.
In the past 14 years the group has championed wind quintet music by Irish composers and when possible, has commissioned new works.
For next week’s shows, Cassiopeia Winds will perform Giulio Briccialdi’s Quintet in D Major, Op.124, Paul Hindemith’s Kleine Kammermusik für fünf Bläser, Adel O’Dwyer’s Three Chromatic Miniatures, Carl Nielson’s Quintet, Op.43 and Valerie Coleman’s Umoja.
Tickets for their shows range from €7.50 to €20 and can be purchased online at www.musicforgalway.ie or by phone on 091 705962.
